7 Health Benefits of Consuming Cinnamon

Cinnamon NL It’s among the most popular spices in the world today. Chances are it’s sitting in your kitchen cabinet. And I’m going to guess that as a child you coveted the sweet taste of it sprinkled on toast with sugar and butter. You may even use it now and again when you cook, but chances are you’re not taking full advantage of this wonder of nature.

I’m talking about cinnamon, and its secret healing powers have been all but lost in the modern world. Most people don’t realize that cinnamon actually comes from the dried inner bark of several species of Cinnamomum laurel trees, and that its use dates back nearly 5,000 years! In fact, until recent times, cinnamon was used almost exclusively for medicinal purposes. Cinnamon is even mentioned in the Bible. Moses used it as an ingredient in his anointing oils. (Exodus 30:22-29)

We study history for a reason — we always have something to learn from the past. Yet, sometimes, the wisdom of the ancients is lost on us. And while mankind has a proud tradition of progress, sometimes we in fact move backwards. Sadly, nowadays, most people associate cinnamon with sugar-glazed baked goods and other confections.

Ancient history aside, the real story here is the irrefutable proof brought to us by modern-day science. Leading experts working at the most respected institutions worldwide have been proving what our ancestors knew all along: Cinnamon has a wide array of remarkable health benefits that can dramatically improve your quality of life.

Please keep reading, because I’m going to share with you seven cutting-edge health secrets of cinnamon that have been clinically researched. I’m also going to teach you about one huge pitfall with cinnamon that you need to avoid. And I’m going to explain how to use cinnamon to quickly, safely and affordably to revitalize your health!

First, Some Words of Caution:
Don’t Get Chewed Up and Spit Out by Big Pharma

Nowadays, the big pharmaceutical companies sell a pill for just about every possible ailment you may encounter. I’m not saying all of these pills are bad — indeed, some of them save lives. But many of them are unnecessary and much more dangerous than you’ll be told by your doctor. The truth is, many of these drugs get pushed through the FDA’s approval process on the basis of flawed, drug company-sponsored research.

I know it’s challenging and confusing. The airwaves are flooded with commercials for pharmaceutical “solutions,” and Big Pharma has a legion of sales reps that visit doctors on a regular basis to “train” them on the benefits of these drugs.

If you’re not careful, and if you’re not diligent, you’ll end up with a prescription almost every single time you see your doctor. In fact, the biggest complaint I get from my readers is that they are just sick and tired of all of the pharmaceutical drugs they are told to take. And you know what? Many of them don’t feel any better for it. They are just caught in the flawed system of doing whatever their doctors tell them to do.

My advice to you is twofold. First, understand that you’re the only one in charge of your health, and that you can’t always rely on other people — even doctors — to look out for your best interests. Second, always consider trying a natural option first. Your doctor may tell you it’s a waste of money and you might even be told that natural solutions are “dangerous.” But you owe it to yourself to try a clinically researched, side effect-free natural solution before taking on all the risks of pharmaceuticals.

7 Proven Health Benefits of Consuming Cinnamon

In over 15 years in the natural health industry, I’ve reviewed and written about hundreds of natural solutions. To be honest, some of them are more hype than the “health miracles” they are made out to be. But many of them truly do have rock-solid scientific evidence proving their safety and effectiveness.

Cinnamon is among my absolute favorites. Why? Because I’ve only come across a select few natural substances that have so many profound and wide-ranging health benefits.

Let me tell you about seven of cinnamon’s most impressive health benefits. Then, I’ll tell you how to take advantage of this miracle of nature, since there are some pitfalls with cinnamon that you really need to avoid.

1. Balanced Blood Sugar

If you’re among the tens of millions of Americans who struggle to maintain healthy blood sugar metabolism, cinnamon could be a godsend for you. Often, a blood sugar issue first manifests with symptoms like fatigue, mood swings, food cravings and weight gain. But if you fail to heed warning signs, it can lead to a condition known as insulin resistance, which can cause your blood sugar to fluctuate wildly, leading to more serious health problems. Leading experts on the cutting edge of natural health believe that cinnamon may in fact be one of the most effective solutions available for controlling blood sugar issues.

A recent study showed that people who consume cinnamon daily have improved insulin function and increased levels of a peptide that helps to prevent overeating, which can lead to spikes in blood sugar.[1] Another study showed that supplementing with 500 mg of a water-soluble cinnamon extract regulates blood sugar in people with insulin resistance.[2]

2. Easy Weight Loss

Losing excess weight is not just about looking good. Being overweight — even if it’s just by 10 or 20 pounds — is linked to significant health risks. In addition to the added risk it poses to your heart, brain and joints, research shows that being overweight can actually shave up to 10 years off your life![3] The bottom line is that if you’re overweight, you’re unnecessarily jeopardizing both the quality and length of your life. The problem, as many of us know, is that losing weight can be really difficult, especially once you’re over 50.

Here’s where cinnamon comes in. Its amazing abilities to help control blood sugar also make it a valuable tool for weight loss. Scientists now know that the fat cells in your abdomen are particularly sensitive to high insulin levels and are very effective at storing excess calories that become fat. However, exciting new research shows that cinnamon may actually mimic insulin in the body, which can quickly translate into fat loss, especially in the abdominal area.[4]

3. A Strong, Healthy Heart

Most people know that cardiovascular problems cause many unnecessary deaths, but let me put it in perspective. Each year, heart issues kill more people than accidents, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, influenza, pneumonia, stroke and respiratory disease — combined! Like many people, I’ve lost a loved one to a heart attack with next to no warning and have watched others experience diminishing quality of life as their cardiovascular health deteriorated.

That’s why I get so excited about the heart health benefits of cinnamon. Research has shown that cinnamon contains powerful antioxidant substances that promote optimal blood vessel health and support optimal heart function.[5] Cinnamon has effectively balanced both blood pressure and cholesterol levels in numerous clinical studies, and scientists believe that its free radical-fighting properties may be the reason it has these effects.[6]

4. Protection Against Cognitive Decline

If you expect to live into your 80s and beyond, which I daresay most of us do, there’s an important statistic you need to be aware of. According to the National Institute on Aging, by the time you reach your 80s, you have a 50% chance of suffering from significant cognitive decline.[7] That’s right, the odds that you could literally lose your mind by the time you’re in your 80s are no better than the toss of a coin! But it doesn’t have to be this way, and you don’t have to become just another statistic.

In a recent study, researchers at Tel Aviv University found that potent extracts from cinnamon bark inhibit the toxic amyloid polypeptide oligomers and fibrils that have been found in people with age-related cognitive issues. They isolated certain compounds, called proanthocyanidins, and determined that they are responsible for the majority of cinnamon’s brain health benefits.[6]

5. A Healthy Inflammatory Response

Many experts call inflammation the “silent killer” because it has no outward signs and often goes undetected for years. However, it’s an important health concern that should be on your radar, since it has been linked to a long list of common health issues that plague people as they get older. This list includes cognitive decline, heart concerns, joint pain, digestive problems and even skin aging.

Cinnamon has been shown to be a truly effective tool for addressing some of these nagging health issues. For example, in a 2005 study, researchers demonstrated that compounds found in cinnamon have the ability to promote a healthy inflammatory response throughout the body, including in the digestive tract and other areas prone to problems associated with high levels of inflammatory markers.[7]

6. Supports Healthy Blood Pressure

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly two-thirds of American adults over age 65 are dealing with blood pressure issues — one of the key warning signs of serious cardiovascular issues. And this can be especially dangerous for those suffering from other risk factors, such as blood sugar issues.

In a clinical trial conducted in London, England among those with blood sugar issues, when comparing groups taking 2 grams of cinnamon a day versus a placebo, the mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure readings were significantly reduced after 12 weeks for the group taking cinnamon.[8]

7. Healthy Digestion and a Strong Immune System

It’s often said that the digestive system is the key to overall health, since its integrity is vital to proper absorption of nutrients and elimination of toxins. Not only that, roughly 80% of your immune system is actually found in your gastrointestinal tract! This means that keeping your digestive system running well is important if you want to maintain optimal immune function and peak health.

Cinnamon has been used for hundreds of years to promote gastrointestinal and immune health and to soothe the stomach. In herbal medicine, cinnamon is classified as a carminative, which is an agent that helps to dispel intestinal gas and make digestion more efficient overall.

In Biblical times, high priests used the spice to protect the health of the communities they served. And today, modern research has confirmed cinnamon’s protective properties. A 2007 study found that even small doses of cinnamon had beneficial effects on the immune system’s ability to fend off intruders.[9]

WARNING: Make Sure You Take the Right Cinnamon

OK, now you understand the amazing healing powers of cinnamon. But don’t just start sprinkling cinnamon on everything you eat, expecting to get remarkable health benefits. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way.

Whole and powdered cinnamon bark is intended for sparing use as a spice. Even if you love cinnamon, you’ll soon get sick if you consume the amount you need to get therapeutic benefits. That’s because it contains a fat-soluble compound called coumarin that can build up in your tissues and cause liver damage and other problems if you consume too much.[10]

So while a supplement is your best bet, be careful, because most fall short. Some companies merely fill capsules with powdered cinnamon that contains the potentially toxic coumarin I just mentioned. That’s why I always recommend that people take only high-quality cinnamon extract supplements.

Here are three tips for what to look out for:

TIP 1: Most experts recommend taking 500 mg a day of a standardized extract. Many supplements contain only 50-150 mg of cinnamon extract. Also, many aren’t standardized, which means you get a lot of cinnamon powder, but not necessarily the active ingredients that provide the full range of health benefits.

TIP 2: Make sure the label says “water-soluble.” This ensures that the toxic constituents have been removed while leaving the active compounds intact. Lower quality cinnamon supplements are fat-soluble, which means there’s a good chance the natural toxins are still present and can build up in your body to dangerous levels.

TIP 3: The quickest and cheapest way to extract the active ingredients from cinnamon is through a chemical process, and these chemicals leave residue in the cinnamon that can be harmful to your health. Higher quality brands use a water-based extraction method that is both safe and effective.

The Cinnamon Extract That I Personally Recommend

As many of you may know, in addition to my work with Live in the Now, I run a company called Stop Aging Now, which has been making premium-grade dietary supplements for over 15 years. I may be biased, but I worked hard to develop it, and as something of a perfectionist, I think it’s pretty perfect.

We created an affordable and highly effective cinnamon formula called CinnaPure® that is superior to anything else out there. Use this link to take advantage of this special offer.

I encourage you to do your own research to make sure you’re getting a superior product at a good price. I am confident, however, that CinnaPure®  is simply the best cinnamon extract out there, and here’s why:

  • The World’s Premier Water-Soluble Cinnamon Extract: Water-soluble cinnamon has been shown to work most effectively in clinical trials and its safety is unequaled. There’s absolutely no danger of the buildup of toxins that can happen with typical fat-soluble cinnamon supplements and whole or powdered cinnamon.
  • The Perfect Dose and Unrivaled Potency: Unlike typical supplements that provide powdered cinnamon or 4:1 cinnamon extracts, CinnaPure features 500 mg of standardized cinnamon at a superior 10:1 concentration level. This is made possible by a patented water-based extraction process. You get more health benefits in every capsule… and that explains why it’s superior to other cinnamon products.
  • Powerful Antioxidant Support: The high concentration of water-soluble cinnamon extract found in CinnaPure means you get the ultimate in protection from dangerous free radicals and higher levels of all the heart-healthy polyphenols that make cinnamon one of the world’s top “superfoods.”
  • Safe, Effective and Convenient: In addition to being free of toxins, CinnaPure is manufactured using an innovative water-based process that involves no dangerous chemical solvents. And CinnaPure is so potent that you only need to take one small capsule per day for total convenience. Plus it’s made in a FDA-inspected facility for quality you can trust.
  • Affordable and Risk Free: This amazing formula is available for as low as $14.99 per bottle for a one month supply, which is less than many discount, low-quality brands. Plus it ships to you for free and comes with an “any reason” 365-day guarantee. That’s right — take it for up to one year, and get a full refund if you don’t like it.

I personally inspect the manufacturing facility where CinnaPure is made on a monthly basis to make sure my rigorous quality standards are being met, so I feel comfortable saying that I stand by this product 100%.

Whether you’re concerned about avoiding blood sugar trouble down the road, losing weight, protecting your heart or simply increasing your energy levels and feeling better every day, CinnaPure is a smart investment. There is a special offer going on right now and you can get CinnaPure for as low as $14.99 per bottle with free shipping, which is a great deal.

Use this link to take advantage of this special offer.

However, don’t just take my word for it. I encourage you to shop around and make sure that you are purchasing the best cinnamon extract you can get — your health depends on it!

I get discouraged about purchasing supplements that supposedly will help me, because they cost so much. NOw, $14.99 a bottle isn’t bad…but when one has to buy several of them to get that price it ain’t good. And, I dislike the “come on” making me think I can get a single bottle at that price.

  2. Scott says:

So the article is called 7 reasons to add cinnamon to everything you eat, but then specifically says not to do that? I normally enjoy these little articles even if they are usually an ad for something, but don’t blatantly insult my intelligence, please.

I have been using Cinnamon that I buy in a super market. I make a dayly drink in a blender. Using Banana, Apple, crapes, Kale and Spinach and a tea
spoon of Cinnamon. I have been using this for several month and have not seen any improvement in my blood sugar. I am taking two kinds of insulin, Apedra and Lantus Solar Star for my Diabedes II. Perhaps
this Cinnamon I am using is the wrong kind. I like to try your extract.
