Curcumin Found to Lessen Pain Symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients

A randomized, controlled study published in the medical journal Phytotherapy Research examined rheumatoid arthritis patients for a period of eight weeks. The patients taking curcumin observed an incredible 44 percent reduction in pain symptoms by the end of the study, while those taking diclofenac, a prescription non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), only had a 42 percent reduction in pain.

The spice has even been reported to help increase mobility in joint pain patients, while helping to offset swelling.

While rheumatoid arthritis only affects about 1 percent of the population, these findings are significant, as it’s a debilitating disease and the current conventional treatment centers around risky NSAIDs, which have been linked to side effects including kidney and liver damage and, increased risk of stomach bleeding and ulcers. Research has found that NSAIDs can severely increase the risk of heart attack and stroke.
